Take your place in the world • two day course run by John Dawson

Course numbers: 6 minimum, 10 maximum, Times: Day 1, 9am – 5pm. Day 2, 9am – 4pm.

This course is for anxious speakers – whether you're just starting out or have been doing it for years. It's NOT a standard presentation skills course. It's about the psychology of public speaking – why we find it hard, and what actually helps. I've been running it for 26 years and worked with over 8,500 people. Time and time again, people say: "I wish I'd done this ten years ago."

By the end of the course you will see public speaking as simpler, and being the centre of attention as something you can handle with much more ease.

What we work on…

  • Learning to feel more comfortable in front of an audience, think on your feet and become more at ease when you speak.

  • Understanding what gets in the way when we speak – including why we so often misread what's really happening in an audience, which is a key part of the course.

  • Speaking in a conversational way rather than performing – authentic connection, not polished delivery

  • Getting your brain back: reducing the pressure we put on ourselves so the whole thing becomes simpler

  • Learning to re-think problematic thoughts and feelings so we can build more trust in ourselves – which is the fundamental building block of confidence

How I teach:

It's an experiential course – we learn by doing, in small steps. The smaller the steps, the safer it feels. The safer it feels, the more you learn.

  • Small group of 6-10 people – enough to feel like public speaking, small enough for individual attention

  • Ground rules set at the start to make the space feel as safe as possible

  • All exercises are optional – you're always in control

  • Individual coaching throughout the course

  • Pair work and group exercises

  • Gentle speaking practice, building on what we've covered

  • Clear course materials, available to download after the course

  • Pre- or post-course coaching available if you want extra support – or just want to chat before you decide. Book here.
