public speaking training
2 day courses with John Dawson
public speaking courses and presenting courses
In many ways the two day course is my favourite way of working and I think is the best way of getting the approach. The course really works with beginners as well as people who might have done a day with me before. You really have chance to let the stuff you have learnt on the first day really sink in and work with it on the following day. The course works for you on your level - allowing you to explore your issues within the context of the group.
Quotes from two day courses
"Very Inspiring facilitator, Probably the most productive way to spend two days for anyone with any doubts over public speaking"
Dan
"facilitator was excellent, hugely inspiring. The emphasis on support and safe environment was great. Really nice group of people"
Jan
"Excellent course, lots of practice, relaxed, helpful"
Ulrich
"No one could have been more fearful than me of standing up in front of even a small group and talking. Something changed in my mindset during the weekend that has given me the freedom to start exploring my potential. Thanks John. "
Lucy
I feel like the course is so different to the usual public speaking course and so much more valuable that I'm eager to tell others about it. The change in participants confidence over such a short period of time is astounding and some very basic principles after being practised make a huge difference to how comfortable and how engaging everyone becomes. What started out on Saturday morning as a group of uncomfortable, nervous and inhibited people became on Sunday afternoon a group of people who acted despite their nervousness, revealed their true selves and allowed the rest of the group to see them as they truly were... which, without exception, was warm, humorous and charming people.

Hi John
Thanks again for a great weekend. Your ability to get people to face their long-time fears and overcome them was really impressive. I came on the course to try an overcome my lifetime fear of getting up to speak. With a wedding coming up, I didn’t want to do my usual thing of mumbling “thank you very much” and sitting down; something I had done at my retirement “do”, though I had prepared a good speech..
The course went right to the hub of my problems, addressing directly the “wobbly tray” moments I got when I walked to the podium and when I stared at all those blank faces. And I feel a million times better equipped to deal with those moments now I have done the course. I’m a retired airline pilot. I didn’t mind talking to people in the plane, but then I was hidden away, and in fact facing away from them!
Yours
Alan
What did you like about the course/facilitation?
Everything- delivery style was awesome, some of the stuff you said will be mottos for my life. Really, genuinely life-changing, best course I have ever been on.
Khizra
"An unexpected journey of courage, respect, humility & compassion. A course I will never forget."

Powerfully Speaking - June 18-20th Tuesday - Thursday Bristol - 3 spaces left 2/5/13
Pilot course - get the first one for half price. Let me know your interest. mail me
A. "Powerfully Speaking..." (working title)3 day advanced presence course for people who want to speak with the kind of presence that TED speakers have. For people who want to develop their personal leadership, to speak from their place of quiet power and who really want to voice their vision.
Leadership has been described as "be yourself - only more so". For me there is a strong connection between good leadership and great speaking. Good speakers are authentic, have presence, allow vulnerability, have humility and create a deep connection with the audience. They also understand the importance of story and structure. But for me its essential to value the importance of being in the moment and connecting with the audience from your authentic self rather than seeing speaking as a performance.
2 or 3 day course - or 3 day residential. costs somewhere in the region of £750-£1000 but cheaper for the pilot course.
£400 for a three day pilot course including two hours coaching (pre and post course) limited to 8 people
If you can't make this course please let me know of your interest for future dates. mail me

Re-thinking presentations:
Beyond the fundamentals
The course
Do you want develop your skills to be a confident presenter with or without PowerPoint?
Do you want to work with what the audience really wants?
There are 40 million PowerPoint presentations done every working day around the world: how many of those are simply reading out slides?
What would it mean to re-think presentations and bring them fully alive?
The course will help you re-think presenting.
Bring simplicity, integrity, and passion to your presentations and learn about the best ways to connect with the audience.
Can we be ourselves and be conversational in a presentation?
The course is not anti PowerPoint - its about finding new and better ways of presenting.
The course includes working with presence, simplifying the presentation process, powerful beginnings, the importance of stories, audience interaction and more presence. The course teaches you to be conversational, authentic and connected to the audience. If you can get a sense of ease and presence and connectedness then you will be a good presenter.
Limited to 6 places
Requirements - Its best to have done a fundamentals course but if you are reasonably confident about being in front of people then have a chat with me.
You need to bring a 5 minute presentation to work on.

"I was looking for a course that provided a different perspective to presenting and public speaking to the ones that are provided by my Company. I really felt that I didn't just need to work on what I said but how I occupied the space when I said it. The course really delivered for me, I was fully motivated and engaged throughout and I left feeling like a changed man"
